Two Minutes To A More Professional Website

January 2023 Edition

How does it feel to have the first month of the year under your belt?! 👊🏻

If you felt like you had to frantically jump into 2023 with gusto, ready to slay all the things, already feeling behind, let this be your permission slip to take a breath and a step back. You don't have to have everything figured out.

In the spirit of letting the new year be easy, I'm repeating the exact same website tips that I sent in January 2022. And January 2021. And January 2020. The content is still 100% relevant and if you've been around LHF for at least a year, you've probably already implemented these tips. Go give yourself a gold star and carry on! ⭐️

If you're newer here—or intended to do these steps last year but never got around to it—now is the perfect time for a super easy touch-up on your website.

Watch the video by clicking the image below for 4 quick fixes to a more professional site. The recording is from 2020 and you'll hear me mention previous years, but the same steps are applicable today. Don’t worry; you can do them all in 2 minutes or less. Promise.

I’ve demonstrated these for you on Squarespace (7.0 Legacy), but the same rules apply no matter what platform you’re on.

You can find a couple more pro tips like snippets of code and conversion software on the blog here. (Use the copyright code and you'll never have to update it again. Ever.)

These 4 tips will show you:

Squarespace default grey box.png
  1. The importance of updating your copyright date.

  2. How to get visitors to stick on your site instead of clicking away.

  3. What’s a favicon, where to get one, and where to upload it. If your browser bar looks like this grey box, it screams “AMATEUR!”

  4. How to ensure your site posts the right image on social media, instead of some weird, blurry, cropped version.

If you’d like to use a handy snippet of code to automatically update your copyright year instead of remembering to update it manually every January, Kerstin Martin has a great article here with several options to choose from. I used this HTML code in a Code Block, and now I never have to update the copyright date again:

<p> Copyright &copy; 2016-<script>document.write(new Date().getFullYear())</script> Your Name | All Rights Reserved</p>

I recommend the website https://convertico.com to convert your PNG logo into ICO format for your Favicon.

Canva is a great resource for building a custom Social Sharing Logo if you don’t already have an image to use. You can access my full suite of Canva tutorials on the Resources page.

That’s all there is to it—4 quick steps to looking more like the pro you are! Let me know how it goes.
